Theater riser, framed
The riser framed in timber with joists and insulation, before the plywood deck and carpet.
Floating shelves, live-edge counters, home theater risers and one-off pieces, built by Barkley Carpentry and finished by the same hands that cut them. Barkley works the slab by hand in Pilot Point and builds live-edge woodwork across Prosper, Celina and Aubrey.
A live-edge piece starts with the right slab: the grain, the figure, the line of the natural edge. Barkley Carpentry reads the timber first, then builds to it, so the wood leads and the finish lets the grain show. Every live-edge piece Barkley builds in Pilot Point belongs to one tree and one home.
Choose the slab and the face that suits the room, the light, and the span.
Flatten, join, and shape, keeping the live edge true to the tree.
A finish that protects the wood and lets the grain carry the room.

A 12 by 8 ft platform carpeted to match, with a recessed channel built along the front and side edges to house lighting.

Solid live-edge shelves floated off the wall above a matching live-edge counter.

The cabinet carcass built in place, before the doors, the finish and the live-edge top.

The same bar finished: wine fridge, sink and storage under a live-edge top.

Two live-edge shelves floated above the bar, cut from the same timber as the top.
Live-edge work keeps the natural outer edge of the timber instead of cutting it square. The slab is dried, worked, and finished so the original line of the tree becomes part of the piece, which is why no two are the same.
Every piece is built for one room. Barkley works the slab itself and sizes the piece to the wall it will live on, so it is made once for your home rather than ordered in.
